I am looking for a program I can use on my laptop or flash drive to take to customer's site and monitor each computers network and internet usage by ip address.

What do you guys use to scan networks with?

net sanner

I use Netscan (it i portable) for scanning network traffic

I do not monitor any bandwidth but to do a quick pen-test sometimes I do run nmap to see open ports on pc's

What exactly do you want to achieve? There are dozens of network scanning/monitoring tools available. Netscan as recommended by doortodoorgeek is an excellent tool for network device discovery - but that's about it. Give us a scenario that you'd like to cover.

I would like to be able to take my laptop or flash drive into the clients location and run a network scan for the following information.

Client IP Addresses and Host name on network
Total bandwidth usage by IP / Hostname
Internet usage by IP / Hostname

That is what I need the most. Will be happy with anything that can provide that information. Would like to use something free or open source.

Thanks Guys

I am not aware of any scanner that will do what you want. Netscan will do the first item admirably. The second and third items will require the installation of monitoring software/firmware/devices. This will also be somewhat dependent on what you need the data for. I'm also kinda confused about WHY you'd need the traffic data? Are you only looking for software that'll tell you what's going on right now?

Maybe "THE DUDE"? I remember it did something with bandwidth tracking... Let me test it on my home network.. (Got three students in the basement who often try to download the internet)

nmap + squid or possibly snort
nmap for the network info
the squid or snort on a machine near the router. Either should give you what you want then some more
