[SOLVED] Mouse (wired or wireless) Random Lag / draggy movement

Hey all

Small but weird issue on a clients computer. Newish computer that has suddenly starting having a laggy mouse. This occurs with wired or wireless mice. It will working normally then, randomly, it goes to super slow motion then kicks out of it again after a second or three.

I initially uninstalled all mouse drivers and Logitech software. Reinstalled correct Logitech software. This has decreased the amount the issue occurs, but the issue is still occurring.

Also, checking system performance, there is no unusual or pegged percentages with hard drive, CPU, or RAM.

Has anyone run across such an issue before? Curious as to where to look next to resolve this issue.

Sometimes a small piece of lint or paper on the "eye" of the mouse will cause erratic mouse behavior. Make sure your

mousing surface is clean and nothing is floating around on the "eye".

Thanks, again, multiple mice were tested with same results, so this would not be the issue in this case.

Does it happen when running a live Linux CD/USB (preferably CD since both wired and wireless mice use the USB controller)? If it has a PS2 port or if you have a video card with a PS2 port incorporated, I would try them for the mouse to see if the problem persists. I assume this is a desktop PC. Also, have you tested/swapped the memory?

Desktop or Laptop?
If laptop, I would remove all the Logitech software and update the Synaptic Touchpad Drivers.
If you use SDIO there are several Synaptic drivers you could test.

Iv'e encountered this before with Logitech software. Removing it permanently fixed my issues permanently!

mousing surface is clean

If your client is NOT using a mouse pad, (at the very least) try one with the mouse. I've seen similar instances when I use a mouse on a shiny surface.

Do they have any mouse-related software installed? I experienced a similar issue myself when using the new version of Synergy. Removing Synergy fixed it and i'm just watching for a few patches to come out before re-installing it again.

Hey all. Thank you for all the suggestions. TAPtech was on it. Oddly, it was indeed a Windows updated graphics driver. I rolled back the graphics driver to a previous one from a few months ago and instantly the mouse lag/hang up issues were resolved.

Later that day I had another client calling with the same issue! I rolled back the graphics driver and this also resolved this clients mouse issue.

It appears both had graphics driver updates that occurred in the month of December. Both clients apparently "put up" with the issue until they could not any longer.. hence the calls this month.. Go figure.

Were they both using integrated graphics or a graphics cards? Same graphics or different?
