Microsoft has published the minimum CPU requirements for Windows 11

We don't sell many refurbs but for now I'll be either:
A) Sticking to Microsoft supported hardware list
B) Telling the client to expect Windows 10 until end of the hardware's life in 2025.
I sell refurbs and I've already started mentioning that they will not be compatible with Windows 11 and Windows 10 reaches EOL in 2025. I sell new as well (mostly commercial grade or custom builds by order) so it isn't a big issue, more incentive to buy new instead of refurb.

Some ordinary mum & dad customers have already heard of Windows 11. Maybe Microsoft's controversial minimum requirements have generated free publicity for them. Am I being too cynical to think that might have been their intention? Then when they relax them a little they'll look like the good guys...

I guarantee you guys any BS "requirements" like TPM or 8th gen CPUs will be easily bypassed a few days after official release. Microsoft would have to completely re-write Windows in order to actually enforce this stuff with anything other than a pop-up message that prevents you from moving forward with the upgrade/install. I'm sure we'll see YouTube videos of people getting Windows 11 to run on a 1Ghz Pentium 3.

Well... you have this. Gonna try this out on my test system since the other things I tried didn't seem to work. I been watching this guy for months now. Really like what he is about and his channel.

I must say I've never installed Windows completely from the command prompt, but I'm intrigued! This also means that images will probably work on dissimilar hardware too, so if you make a Windows 11 image on a 1 year old computer, then put that image onto an older computer, it will probably work fine.

Russian server for the script? Not just no way, but hell no way. I’ll stick with the upgrade from 10 method.

Or at least the install up to the error, shift + f10 into regedit and make a few keys to bypass method.

Completely agree. But it makes little difference as I do my best to avoid installing "hacks" like that on client systems. Too many potential nightmares involved being responsible for supporting an unsupported configuration. Plus a very high possibility every feature update is going to break/revert it.

I'd be the first to do it on my personal devices though.

I mean... for the most part, they are basically forcing "old systems" to die. Of course, that's not really the case, because they will happily run Windows 10 for another 4+ years but that's another story.

If a customer MUST HAVE windows 11, then you get to sell them a new / newer computer. Win win.... you get to upsell on monthly service plans, hardware upgrades, data migration.... the list goes on and on.

I'd simply tell people.... M$ gave the OS away for free, but basically forced you to buy a new / newer computer. If you HAVE TO HAVE IT, that's the cost of doing business so to speak. Otherwise, run windows 10 and forget it.

Another thing that needs pointed out...

The TPM module serves as an encryption key for the mainboard. This is important because if you have bitlocker enabled, the TPM itself can act as a secondary key.

So in theory, if our users lose their Microsoft account, as long as the TPM module matches the drive, it'll be decrypted and they get their files.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd love to be able to pop a generic chip out of a dead mainboard, slap it into another one, and read my clients encrypted data.

I'm not certain that actually works just yet... but it's the substance of what I think is happening on the encryption front after reading through several MS Dev Blogs.

I checked for tpm modules with a number of suppliers nobody has any??
Most CPUs that are in the supported list (e.g. Intel 8th gen and later) have an on-die TPM feature but it's usually disabled by default. The UEFI BIOS settings might have the ability to enable the on-die TPM feature without needing a separate module.

Yes i know about built in tpm on 8th gen and later on older boards that support 8th gens i have looked in bios there is no way to turn it on also checked for new bios update and there was none.
Same goes for ryzen i checked using windows 10 for tpm it can`t see it and the board has no new bios . there was nothing in bios to turn it on yet.
Some of the newer boards they have just released a new flash to enable tpm i have updated a few already but older boards still nothing yet.

Btw TPM can also be used by hackers to cloak malware and viruses https://www.usenix.org/legacy/event/sec11/tech/full_papers/Dunn.pdf

Thing about TPM and windows 11 i believe bitlocker is enabled by default what happens when motherboard and cpu get blown by huge power surge how do you recover that data lol could be a nightmare for data recovery outfits.
