I was given a 15 MBP i5 mid 2010 when turned on no chime and nothing on screen. I can see the white light at the front and hear the fans, I am guessing its toast, but you never know. Any advice to further troubleshoot

Yep, most likely toast. But I'd crack the case to unplug the battery, leave it unplugged for 15 minutes or so, then power up with just the AC adapter just to be sure.

Thanks,
Good idea that's what I was going to do next remove memory, it beeps with no memory, a good sign
Those darn 3 prong battery screws (I hate Apple) I have about 100 bits and screwdrivers not one of those, maybe I threw it away thinking why would I ever need it.
Will try NviGate suggestion, thanks

of course if it was any good I would not have been given it
Probably worth more in parts as it a clean MBP.

Worth looking at. Has fixed it for me on various occasions.
Removing power, which unplugging the battery does, does the same thing. I prefer doing that since I've had a few where the KB combo didn't work for some reason.

Thanks,

Getting a set isn't expensive. While Apple is the worst, these are showing up in other devices so it doesn't hurt to have a set of those odd security tips.
