I've used a lot of guides and tutorials, especially when learning Linux and every time that I use the cut and paste function I get this strange guilty feeling so I decided to not use it anymore unless I absolutely know how the function works.
So here's the tip:
Whenever you encounter a command for the command line or coding for scripting, batch files or programming, you should ALWAYS manually input the text into the computer even if you can cut and paste the text. The only time you can ignore this is when you have a FIRM & COMPLETE understanding of the data being input or if the data is non-specific & repetitive (meaning you won’t ever use it again). The reason for this is that the best way of learning is through repetitive practice and application of the commands and techniques you encounter. If you simply cut & paste you may easily complete the tutorial but how much will you have actually learned from?
