Hello all,
I am new to this forum. I am looking for a forum that discusses laptop repairs, and am also looking for replacement parts. In July I purchased a 4 year old Compaq Presario R3000. It did not work at first, but I eventually got it running (problem was the power cable, not the computer itself). The only trouble I have with it now is that the LAN/Ethernet does not work--it seems that the driver is not working (the device manager stated that "there are not enough resources to use this item, or something like that). I tried to do a couple of things with the BIOS, but now Windows is not starting up. I think it's trying to boot from the LAN and not the hard drive, but I am not able to change the boot sequence (I tried restoring defaults). Maybe I can find someone who can coach me through this.
As for parts, the cover for the CD/DVD is missing. It works fine, it's just missing the cover. I am looking for a computer place that may have parts like this. I could buy another CD/DVD--one that has the cover still attached--but my plan is to give this laptop to a minister in a church in the Philippines (I do missions/humanitarian work over there), so I really do not want to spend much money--especially since this CD/DVD works fine.
If I can find a place that has parts, I may also be interested in upgrading the memory (right now it has only 512MB), and possibly even the hard drive (this one is 60GB).
