Hi, I'm looking for information on passbook printers for a a banking institution. Currently the only requirements I have from their side is the need to be Windows 7 Compatible. I really have no idea about these types of printers, I just know they have been quoted $21000 + tax (15%) from another company for the 7 printers they require, and this seems quite excessive. Anyways I was hoping someone here would have some ideas about what would be suitable passbook printers for a bank and what price points I should be looking at?

Thanks for the reply, yeah the Epson PLQ-20 is the one that seemed to be most popular Googleing. I was just shocked at the previous quote they received, any ideas why such a high quote? Installation/Service built into the price? Still a very high quote. This is also for a bank in Canada, so looks like purchase would have to be made from the USA, as I couldn't find any for sale in Canada.

Being a specialty printer I would have to assume the life expectancy of these things is pretty high. What about maintenance and service? Any idea, about servicing these things? They do have there own in house IT department, would this be something they could maintain and service? Or would they have to have servicing done externally? Or do these printers even need servicing?

Ahhh.... In CA. Epson should be available up there. As far as the price is concerned. If you have to import there are duties as well as shipping. On top of that most situations like this include a maintenance contract. But that still makes their price astronomical. From what I have seen maintenance contracts generally add 10-30% to the unit price depending on the SLA. Can you find out what printers they had in the bid? The bank should give you that information.

On top of that it is Atlantic Canada (Halifax), which makes it worse on availability. I'll get more details tomorrow.
