My son's Inspiron 7000 is like that, has a little pop-down tab to expose the ethernet port - at first glance it looks like a USB port, and god help me I tried shoving a USB stick in it once, that's how I found out.

Is there any use for something like this anymore? The last time I used my one must have been about 3 or 4 years ago!

Although I haven't used one for ageeeeees, there are times when doing refurbs that I just need the RJ45 ... errr Network Interface Card (NIC - correct terminology I believe) to work so that I can download the manufacturers driver utility which will then download everything else. Having this around with the driver on ROM will help immensely.

Yes, I could use Snappy Driver Installer, but there are some times when you want and need the OEM drivers and utilities.

i came across one of those last week. Spent ages going over the case with a flashlight and magnifying glass till i came across an icon i recognised and realised it opened up to allow the plug to go in.
