Logitech wireless mouse dongle and Windows 10 boot issue

I've had a few of these dropped off - after an update, Windows 10 won't boot past the blue screen with the dotted circle (btw do we actually have names for these screens, or do we just have to always describe them visually?). Got one today and started to work on it. It's Sunday, brain not working well, so I did a bunch of troubleshooting, ran diagnostics, tried system restore, start up repair - all no luck. Then I noticed the Logitech wireless mouse dongle, said "duh", pulled it, and Windows booted right up.

I've since done some searching on the web, seen plenty of people with the problem, but nobody with a solution beyond simply pulling the dongle if Windows gets stuck. Of course, I can just tell the client that if it happens again to try pulling the dongle before calling me. But I'd prefer to actually find a solution so 1. it doesn't happen again, and 2. she continues to think I am a genius who does magic, not someone who just knows to pull a dongle.

So I'm throwing it out here - anybody here seen this issue and found an actual solution?

Thanks!

I have run into this - the fix was to pull the dongle, let the system boot, put the dongle back in, then install the Logitech SetPoint software or whatever the software from Logitech they have to download. Has worked each time I encountered this issue.

I have had a few of these as well. I tried all the settings in BIOS such as boot order for USB and also the USB mouse and keyboard setting etc but no luck. I also tried updating logitech drivers and the like. Interesting that I could not find anything on Logitech website or forums. I am wondering how many people have simply written their computers off thinking the HDD is faulty.

Don't know if it's coincidence but I think they have all been "All in One" HP systems, usually WIN 10 upgraded from 8 or 7. I usually get caught because you don't see the dongle plugged in the back hidden away.

In this case it was an HP laptop, upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. I updated the BIOS to the latest version and moved the dongle to a different port, and it seems to be booting fine now, but I'm going to tell the client to pull the dongle if it happens again. Thanks for the idea about the Logitech software - it's not on the system so I might as well add it.

I also wonder how many people have run into this and ended up replacing the drive, or even the computer. I've seen enough of them that I plan to write an article about the issue in my next monthly client newsletter.

Yep had the same issue installing the anniversary upgrade, it took me a few attempts before I realized it was the USB adapter for the Logitech keyboard.
