LCD / Inverter Tester

I love gadgets that save me time but I would like to see someone review this thing first. Looks too much like a toy. I agree with Road Runner, its likely we have tools that can do this already.

Looks nice, but I built one of these years ago. Always wondered how much I could sell $10 in electronics for....I guess $119.99.

I'd like to see the guy make some money on the tool.....thats what we are all in this for.

I did a google search the other night and found some write ups and videos of various test procedures......

My gut feeling is you need some spare backlights and inverters to swap out if you want to know for sure.....

I guess sometimes I am just too curious about things.......after all wasnt it curiousity that killed the cat ??????

or was it a car ??? :)

or did the cat lick the high voltage A/C inverter leads ???

JimBo I like to see people who figure out a better way to do things market it ...make money.....I also like people who can figure out how something works and do it cheaper......thats what makes the economy work.......

Sometimes I buy.....Sometimes I build....

Just curious how would some one test an inverter without the laptop? would a tool like this be able to test an inverter by itself ?

I have something like 300 inverters testing them would be fantastic.

This can't test the inverter without the laptop. It's not impossible, but you'd basically have to know the pin-out configuration for each inverter then build a power source with connectors for each different type of inverter. It'd be impractical to make and use.

I dont think i would be able to get any of the pin layouts for any inverters :(

Now that i think about it its completely unrealistic to test an inverter without the laptop.

The power source is the motherboard video connector. Someone would have to know the proper voltage for each of the connections to the inverter. Then supply them all. THEN see if the inverter lights a backlight... ugh.

I probably have 50-60 unique inverters and no way of finding the specs.

You guys where originally talking about the inverter backlight tester.
who needs ANY special hardware at all?

Keep 1 cracked LCD and hook it up to any suspected bad inverter. If it wont light the cracked screen (and you know the backlight bulb is good) Its a bad inverter. Keep the whole LCD only to protect the known good backlight bulb because without the aluminum housing its too easy to break and it contains a trace of hazardous Mercury.
