KVM woes

I purchased 2 USB kvm's some time ago mainly for Dells which come in and have no PS2 ports.
They also get used for generic boxes but I'm finding the number of machines which won't respond, or have issues with them is increasing.
They are Ritmo brand which the local hardware supplier had in stock.
Troubleshooting can be hard enough without having to bypass the KVM to rule out kvm issues.

I had some problems with USB KVMs that also act as a device hub (only have 1 USB connector for each computer). I then tried these devices: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817399032&cm_re=usb_kvm-_-17-399-032-_-Product

I now have 3 of these on my bench and I have had no more unresponding computers. My gut feeling is that, since they have 2 USB connectors for each computer, they act as a physical switch on each USB line. By doing so, it avoids the computer having to detect the hub 1st, then each of the devices plugged into it.
