Can anybody help? I need to repair this as a freebie (due to me being on holiday when I was supposed to fix it, oops!).

I've checked all the DMA settings and everything is correct. It has 2GB RAM and a P4 processor (can't remember the model but its fast). Does anybody know what else is causing this jitter? The optical drive seems to work ok.

It plays back all other videos perfectly.

When you say it plays other videos does that include DVD quality size and resolution?

What video chip set does it have, have you tried drivers?

I don't have the laptop with me as my client is using it but :-

I've tried reinstalling the video card drivers
I've degraged it (it was heavily fragmented)
I've tried Iplayer in HD resolution (so better than DVD quality) and it works fine.
Tried the DVD in VLC and Media player and playback is the same

I will try reinstalling the IDE drivers when I get it back but not hopefull on that.

It might be an audio problem.

I know that in older distros of Linux a buggy audio kernel module can cause all kinds of video problems.

I have also seen some high end SB cards use drivers that take a lot of resources. Are the videos that play well in 5.1 or just stereo sound?

You can also try uninstalling any unused drivers in device manager.
