Is PC gaming dead?

PC gaming is without a doubt much better than console gaming. Just not quite as social, nearly all of my mates have got Xbox Ones. So although PC is better, I get much more enjoyment from having an Xbox.

Not dead for everyone, had a customer drop off a Dell XPS 720 Red tower yesterday, its a monster of a box. Wants it upgraded to run the new Wolfenstein on full fps no matter what it costs.

Funny thing is new games that get released do not make use of extra cores still.
I guess it's a programmers issue trying to get multitasking running in the code the new 5 series of i7 with 8 cores don't help in games as they only seem to use 2 cores at most on average.
Look at these benchmarks not much more performance or even less in 5 series.

I'm surprised I didn't notice anyone mention mobile devices yet. I think PC gaming is still going strong for hard-core gamers, but the casual gamers have moved to mobile devices, which is a huge booming industry. However, I believe there will always be the hard-core base of PC gamers...which still provides the best gaming experience.

I absolutely do not think PC gaming is dead. Au contraire. As others mentioned, PC gaming kicks console-ass.

Just look at how much Steam has improved the last couple of years: more functionality, more games, free games, growing community, chat, etc. They even have their own Linux based OS now called SteamOS. Also worth mentioning is the insanely fast growing social network for PC gamers called Gaming Tribe.

Needless to say, I like to do a little gaming myself so now and then. Mostly FPS. You know, blow sh*t up to release the tension [emoji12] [emoji41]

Ya, but the CPU is less of an issue now days because the games do not need the CPU near as much as they need a good graphics card. At this point in time with the GPU handling virtually everything including physics, the CPU is more or less a data bus and interfacing logic between components.. very little of the game is actually crunched in CPU anymore.

If they kill the PC game market, they are going to loose a lot of developers who only develop b/c they love PC based games many of which are ported to game consoles - or they are developed for game consoles with the caveat that they be ported to PC. I don't see this as being a major issue jsut as I don't see desktops going away.

If developers continue with the marketing of an x game just with DLC . It will be the end of pc gaming in context for example. The Battlefield community had lots of modders.
Moderns and mappers. Dice or Ea thought we were to stupid to work out the new engine. A kick in the head to Major support. I think it was a fku to the pc gamers and more a Money spin for console. Serious fps on console, lol.

If only there was a way to play along side console versions, the issues would seem less significant. I picked up a used 360 from game stop last year, just to play against my brother in another state. However, he rarely does. If he didn't have a 360, I probably wouldn't have gone with that purchase.

Looks like a steam box to me george:D

I dunno, I'd guess the cyberpower device won't pick up enough steam. Too many of us custom guys and modders out there.

Well i picked up shadow of mordor for the pc first i have to say it's best game i have seen in over 10 years, pc games now are far and few between and good ones show up once every 6 years.
I use to buy 10 games a month now not even that many titles are made, what made most people stop buying pc games is that they are shipped half finished and that made many people really mad.

It is an awesome game - been playing for a bit now. Loving the special moves and interogation muhahha. Monolith do make some decent games and have a good history. The game does have an Assassins Creed style but is very well put together. I wish there was a Viking game, in a similar style. Including the open sea engagements, that would be well..

I just can't wait for another equivalent to command and conquer. EA pulled the plug on the one I was alpha testing :(

Other than shadow or mordor all I really play is dota 2 and cs go.

I just noticed a stealth toggle in shadow of mordor LSHIFT+RSHIFT instead of holding down shift key.
Then to release hit LSHIFT

Sweet! Thanks for that info ... I get tired of holding down the shift key all the time.

btw I love Shadow of Mordor .... been playing it for about 3 days and am having a blast.

Can't wait for GTA 5 to come out, on the PS4. When playing it on PC for the previous versions there are too many bugs. Even after numerous patches and updates it never really runs the same. I love to play First person shooters. Like BF and all that on the PC, but after getting the Playstation 4, that just seems the way to go for me.
