IOS Cloud account. Remove

I have a client with an iPhone and an email account they don't have access to anymore. We can't remove the iCloud account. as it needs the password. Does anyone know how I can remove it. I did think of finding the latest firmware and updating it via iTunes. If that still works? or can I jailbreak it then de-jailbreak it? Not getting it until Saturday. But trying to plan the job.

I have been able to put ipads and iphones into recovery mode and then hookup them up to a computer with itunes and restore them back to factory settings before. That works assuming they haven't set up find my phone through icloud. If they have then the find my phone activation lock will prevent you from doing anything with the device and I haven't found a way around that.

You can recover the account even without email if they can answer the security questions. Once you can log in you can then change the associated email to a new active email address.

If the iOS is recent, 7 and above if I remember correctly, that iPhone is tied to the iCloud account. So they have to regain access. @nlinecomputers works. People have also taken it into an Apple store they have done "something" to unlock it.

iPad which the wrong email address was used to setup iCloud...iCloud is waiting for verification which was emailed to the wrong email address. I went as far as trying to setup that email address for myself as I use the same ISP but the setup page on the ISP's website says that this incorrect email address isn't available. So, presuming that someone is actually this email address, I composed a nice email which explains the problem and asking whoever is using the mailbox to forward the Apple verification email to me. That email bounced with a message saying that the the mailbox doesn't exist.

I have one set of answers to security questions which were written down and seem to be correct for the actual/correct Apple ID but do not work with the wrong email address that I'm trying remove.

Anyhoo...long story short:

1. I can't use the reset function on the Apple website
2. I can absolutely guarantee that this is the owner of the iPad. I have done work for her and 2 other members of her family.
3. I can't finish the iCloud verification because I can't access the mailbox that the verification email was sent to.

Is there another way of removing iCloud i.e. a jail breaking type solution?

I tried this today, But it failed the did not know the information. So they are going to go to Apple and see if they can sort it. If that fails wait until they get a new phone later this year, then get me to set it up again.

My customer has been to an Apple store and they couldn't help her out!

Had the same issue with a client who brought in two iPads belonging to her deceased son. There was a lock on them and she didn't know the answers to his security questions or his email password. Apple refused to help despite bringing in death certificates etc. The iPads are now paperweights I guess.

No. This whole process was implemented because of the theft problem. Not sure what number they use, MAC address, etc but the point is to bind the device to an identity. I would think if they have proof of purchase they can have things "fixed" by Apple.

Yup apple will help if you can provide them proof of purchase.
We've done it many times for customers in these situations.
That is to remove the iCloud lock a device.
Not sure if they can help if you're locked out of an iCloud / Apple ID account.

Bumping this old thread because I now have several iPad 2 devices from a corporate client. They were setting abandoned in a storage closet before being handed off to me to 'see what I could do with them'.

DISCLAIMER: The iPads were handed out to employees without the previous IT first setting up an official recovery account. Of course, the receipts are long gone by now. The users setup their own email addresses for find my device but left the company a while ago. There's no way to identify what email address or password they used.

Without getting into too many details, everything currently indicates that without a receipt or the email/password the devices are bricked. The iPads even have the official company name etched into the back but of course none of that matters to Apple.

I'd like to simply remove the icloud locks from the device as I've already restored them via Itunes. Now I get the dreaded message about the iPad activation prompting for iCloud Apple ID and password before I can activate them as new.

I came across a few tools that look promising but I suspect they could be scams, and I'm wondering if anyone has used any of these or a similar tool. Does it work to allow me to complete the device restore and assign to new employees? This is several hundreds of dollars worth of iPads in the trash otherwise, what a waste.

Contacting the owner asking for the receipts was the first course of action, but no such luck.

Ok so if they have already gone back to the store where the iPads were originally purchased from, and they were unable to provide copies of the original invoices, then there is nothing you can do and apple won't help either.
There is no way to unlock the devices from the iCloud accounts and those paid sites you linked to will be a scam.
The business can put it down to lesson learned and to make sure they don't do that again.
Can't get upset at Apple for not helping you break a security feature, without proof of purchase.

Are the icloud locked devices wifi only or do they have cellular antennas? if cellular we have 2 options for removing the icloud lock, 1 involves a physical hardware mod and the other does not, but neither are cheap $175+ so usually not an option on 2's.

We also have a roughly $200 option for icloud locked phones as long as clean esn and not stolen. takes about 2 weeks though.

If they were MacBooks, I'd recommend swapping out the system board. There's a small chip, like a CMOS chip that contains the hash of an unlock code. When you go to the Apple Store and provide proof of purchase, they pull the hash from the device(very easy) and authenticate with their iCloud server to provide the unique unlock code.

There are shady but interesting Raspberry Pi type hacks to reflash the chip with blank data. But if you swap out the system board, and BEFORE connecting to the internet, thoroughly wipe the HD, no iCloud remnants should remain.
