I've been very intreeged by the remote assistance invention and believe it will be a great asset to my business as a lot of people will be interested in the lower cost charges seeing as I don't have to physically be at their location, but I would like to know more about the pros and cons related to these questions:

1) Which is the best remote assistance program available and how much does it cost, if anything?
2) Is it reliable and effective?
3) Would you recommend running defrag and system optimizing software using it?
4) Do you use it and what are your experiences with it?

Any input would be highly appreciated,

Kind regards,

Tom Osborne

I use a product called
Help Desk VNC

Their are other versions of the same product, that do the same thing.

Since GOToMyPC and GoToAssist, ect ect ect, all require you to visit a website and download the product, the functionality is the same.

My app is much cleaner, and simpler than the others in my opinion. The customer clicks 1 link, and can save the app to the desktop for future use. No numbers or extra crap is involved.

As for simplicity...
Step 1
Redirect the port you want to use to a workstation in your office.
Step 2
Put the exe on your web server.
Step 3
Have the customer run the .exe

Enuro, thank you very much for your time, detailed and helpful answer. I will look into setting that application up asap, as for Thor, thank you for informing me and saving me from hummiliation later on, I shall search all threads before posting my own next time :D

Kind regards,

Check out what thor999 had to say a few posts earlier.

Although I dont personally use any remote assistance programs except for the one that comes with xp, I try to avoid it. For me there is just too many and, ifs, or buts that come along with it. Plus, it's not very reliable for jobs where you have to turn off the computer, mess with hardware, ext. But it IS very good when just trying to fix a minor software issue.

If you aren't using remote software you're really missing the boat. You can do more than just "minor software issues" with a remote connection. I can completely clean a system of all virus and malware problems, and then restart the computer just like I was sitting in front of it. Without ever leaving my house. It's a plus for me as well as the customer.

I use Teamviewer because I think it's the best, but that's just my opinion. http://www.technibble.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

i use LogMeIn once you start a session with a client and the computer needs to reboot you don't start a new session it will auto re-connect

Does Teamviewer have drawing tools such as arrow, free form drawing, etc?

Logmein and Teamviewer

Hi all. We use logmein free which is awesome for your current client base and new clients as if you let them know that you'll be able to help them remotely by installing a small application on their PC they will be amazed that this technology even exists. "Logmein Free"! You can add every customer to your free logmein account. We just install it on all computers that have a fast internet connection. Currently we have over 200 clients on Logmein Remote Support.

Teamviewer. This tool we have up on our server and will instruct a new client to download the client app as it is very straight forward. You also download the main app from the teamviewer website. They just download and run it. 3 sets of numbers pop up. These numbers they give to you over the phone with a password and whaaalllaaaaaaa. You are in! This is when you can install logmein by going to the logmein website. logging into your own logmein account and click "add computer". If you don't install logmein the client will always have to be at the other end of the phone to give you the new 9 digits and password to login. At least with logmein you can restart then relogin to the client with logmein without the client needing to be there. We do loads of after hours system cleans and this works amazingly. BEWARE THOUGH!! Once clients get a taste of this they'll expect you to fix their computer right there right now immediately. Good Luck!:D

for techs how use log me in and teamviewer free, its this not illegal as its for home and personal use, as we all have a business , is this allowed.

LogMeIn Free is not for commercial use and it is against their policy. It is meant only for computers you own.
