Hi Technibble's
Can anybody recommend me a solution which would allow internet quota control and monitoring by IP address on a small network?
The situation:
I have a client who pays a premium for satellite internet at his work site which includes an office and a nearby residential camp.
Internet connection and reliable speeds are critical to his business.
Users of the network access the internet via router, some of them through wired connection and others through WiFi.
There is also a Synology NAS DS1815+ on site as file server.
The problem:
The internet connection speed is often shaped monthly because their allowed internet quota is exceeded.
The internet quota required to undertake their daily work is quite low so their allowed internet quota in their package is more than ample.
Currently, it is not possible to trace and identify the internet usage of each device or computer in an easily accessible form. The router shows technical information such as the websites which has been accessed by devices but does not show the time spent and the data downloaded.
The cause of the problem:
I suspect that some employees may be downloading via torrents clients or watch movies online etc..
The objectives of the proposed solution:
So I want to implement a solution which is server/NAS based or which:
1) allow the client to monitor the internet usage and receive reports of websites accessed, time accessed and data downloaded by each device (smartphone, laptop, computer etc)
2) prevents torrents downloading/uploading
3) provides a log in page with a timed internet connection restriction similar to public wifis at airports etc
4) allocated unlimited bandwidth"a to some devices(such as owner's devices) and restrict bandwidth& quotas for employees devices
5) send an alarm system if total internet quota is nearing allowable limit.
6) ofcourse prevent anyone from accessing restricted contents (porn, etc..)
Can you please help me recommend an off-the-shelf solution based on your experience of similar situations?
Many thanks all
