Here is what I need it to do/be:

-Software based
-Inexpensive/free
-Support for maybe 75 clients
-Need to filter specific sites based on IP address <--this is the most important

Here is what we need to accomplish:

We just signed a contract with a car dealership. They are linked PTP with another dealership. Both are on 1 AD domain. We need to filter websites at just one dealership, not both. Hence the filter by IP importance. They have nothing in place now for filtering.

I can't say I have ever dealt with any web filtering software so I will take any suggestions. Thanks!

I've just started learning/using about OpenDNS, but it seems you could use that at the one location. Whether you set it up using the router/server, or manually configuring every computer for their DNS.

Because you must use your internal AD server as the DNS server for the domain in both locations, I'm unsure how you can get one location to utilize OpenDNS and not the other. If you find a solution let me know.

I too use OpenDNS for web filtering. If nothing else, the minimal setting is great because it protects against phishing sites. Nothing wrong with a little extra security. :D

And it serves two purposes at one time; web filtering and speeding up web browsing. If your client has a cable connection they may not notice the difference. However, I live in a rural area and there is only one "high speed" ISP that provides service.

They use a 2.4GHz wireless radio on a grid antenna. Basically it works by transmitting signals to and from nearby wireless tower antennas, instead of using a traditional phone line. Thus giving them the flexibility to provide coverage in rural areas. We get anywhere from a 500 - 900 kbps download speed.

I configured OpenDNS with a computer in my home without saying anything, and my non-techie family member noted the increase in speed on web browsing.

Look at this: http://www.untangle.com/ It's a fantastic linux distro made just for the purpose, it works a charm (i use it in school lab) and has a lot of tools like antivirus/spyware, and obviously web filtering! And it's opensource!

Opendns is the best way to do this unless you want to go the pro route in which case you buy a barracuda web filter. I like them a lot.
