Hey gang, a local NBC affiliate has asked me to do an on camera interview tomorrow (Tuesday 6/15/10) about rogue infections and general computer safety tips.

I plan to mention what rogue infections are (hold your computer hostage for a ransom and generally muck things up with trojan's and registry corruptions, etc..). The importance of a real and up to date anti virus. Decent free protection like Microsoft's security essentials, AVG and things like Web of Trust, make sure your security updates are up to date, and of course the importance of backing up your data. I'll also mention K-9 Web protection and simply making sure you kids know that no company is simply going to give them an ipod/ipad/xbox/ps3 etc... for free if they hit the monkey with a banana. And of course don't ever click on the box that says your computer may be infected, click here for a free scan.

This is all very sudden and i want to make sure i'm not over looking anything.

Any additional tips/ideas?

Thanks
Kevin

I would make sure and add that there are many fake security programs out there and if they are already infected make sure and seek a professional.

Make sure they give you a great plug so you can get some business from it.

I would probably add the following

Most people get virus infections (at least from what I have seen) from file sharing p2p proggies such as limewire, bearshare, torrents, etc.

Also more and more people are getting exploited and tricked by virus they get from facebook.

I'm seeing more lately getting infected by bad PDF files.

I'd push something like Foxitreader or, at least, emphasize that they should make sure Adobe Reader is 100% updated (Help..Check for Updates).

If anyone cares to check out the news article that aired head to my site at www.tcdor.com or just watch the vid below:

***edit: apperantly we can't embed here so just head over to my site above for the full run down.

Thanks
Kevin

Nicely done! I think you'll be seeing new biz from this, no matter how many people heed the warning. I noticed that YOU were surfing on a MAC, however ;)

Wow that is great for you man... Hope you got lots of calls and new customers. Love the doctors outfit :)

shhhh...don't tell anyone my secret. all of us super heroes have our dark secret tools, this one is mine

thanks for the compliments everyone.

I was contacted out of the blue by Gray Hall, the other guy in the news story. However, i encourage all of you to contact your local news outlets and offer your services like this to them if they ever need to interview a local computer expert.

I would discuss the "air gap" firewall concept and how it offers the highest level of protection at no charge. ;)

Just make sure and wear something with your business name and/or logo on it. This is your opportunity to get some free television advertising.

Excellent and congraulations!!!!! You will definitely see more 'patients' by the airing of that news special and I really like that theme of being a computer doctor. Very, very nice. Good idea mentioned about reaching out local news stations in the area. There's a Channel 12 sister-station down the street from where I live. H-m-m-m-m.

I wish you much continued exposure and success!

I like the idea of contacting the local stations . Very interesting . :)
