If an LCD inverter fits, is there a problem?

I've got a Sony Vaio laptop with a bad inverter, I tested it with a known good inverter from an HP DV6000, it works fine, screen displays perfectly. So I know it needs a new inverter, well my tester fits in fine, and the plugs match, so I'm curious if there is any harm in using this one from the HP? I can't seem to find the exact replacement for it on ebay, so this really would be my best bet.

As long as the connections are the same for the lcd cable and the backlight port, then I would think it would be fine.

I would not imagine there being too much difference in power out to the backlight then any other lcd inverter, however I could be wrong.

Now I can say this: Do not attempt to use an inverter from a smaller screen. It will not have enough power to drive the lamps, and will end up frying itself. Always try for a similar size, or slightly larger.

found that little tidbit on the interwebs :)

I get all my parts from sparepartswarehouse.com and have not come across a part they can not get for me yet and inverters are relatively inexpensive. Good Luck

Honestly, since most inverters are about $5, I would just order one. You can get them from ebay.

I wouldn't even try plugging in an inverter from another brand. Even if the plugs from the video cable physically fit, it could still be a different electrical pin-out. You could (potentially) damage the system doing that.

See my problem is I'm not finding it anywhere.

It's a Sony Vaio VGN-NW265D, I can't find any inverters based off that on ebay.

The number on the inverter is 144569111 0546629, but also, no exact matches on ebay. Searching just 144569111 gets results, but then at that point, I might as well use the non-matching one I have now?

Thanks to all who replied as well :)

Edit: There is this one result for a VGN-NW265F http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sony-VAIO-VG...590?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item519d3ea9ce .. however it's not a VGN-NW265D like the laptop model I have. In my head I figure it can't be that different, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not 100% sure, but that sounds like the sony model number from the bottom of the laptop... Am I right? If so, check the model number on the LCD screen bezel. Sony has some pretty dumb model number/stickering practices....the actual model of the system is the one on the lcd bezel sticker...not on the bottom of the laptop.

Thanks PCX.. Some of those don't show for me since they only ship to america (I'm in Canada), but there was one of them that guaranteed it worked on all NW models.

I did also find a number under some tape on the board of the inverter itself that matches up to a couple, so I might be ok :)

Thanks everyone.

It should work without any problem. Just gotta learn how to look up different parts for different laptop manufactures. It took me a few months to get used to it. In any case, thats typically how you would search for any generic Sony part like inverters.
