[SOLVED] I need something weird

A USB A male to telephone jack female adapter. Anyone even seen one of these? The property manager is running their entry input for new phone numbers system off an XP which jacks into their phone system. Hope I'm making sense.

Take a picture of it, because if that's what I think it is... you're messing with an RS232 adapter.

The make and model of the PBX would help too.

Yeah, they have those with RJ11 (telco) and RJ45 (ethernet). But the pinouts can vary.

Yes, and therein lies the problem. That's why I need to know what PBX we're working with because while I'm pretty sure it's an RS232 circuit running over a modular interface... some of those things are CUSTOM. And I need to see if any of my PBX contacts can get me the pinout.

I'm pretty sure we're going to wind up with a USB to DB9 RS232 device, with a DB9 to modular connector that will need to be hand assembled to match the PBX.

Either that, or you buy the proprietary management interface from the PBX vendor. A mistake here could damage the PBX.

I'm trying to port the system to the Window 10 computer. Gets into the system through the phone modem or fax modem. For now I'm thinking fax. No telephone line port for modern computers.

You can still get fax modem boards. You need to get the same device that the old machine has. Stop trying to overthink it with usb.

And if you just have to have USB because it is a laptop then you need a usb fax modem.

Oh yeah, if it's an old modem interface you can just get a modem. There are USB modems, PCI modems... that crap is still quite real.

Now... getting the management software for the PBX to work on Windows 10... THAT is the hard part.

Thanks for your help on this everyone. I made the XP machine virtual on a Windows 10 computer found a u.s. robotics usb Fax Modem driver
Set a filter in settings so the USB would be loaded automatically for my client
Plugged in the phone line

Still awaiting a test input on the database but everything seems to be working great thanks to God, you folks and me thinking outside of the box.
