Hi Guys

I have a HP Touchsmart IQ522UK from a client.

When you turn it on it just sits on the HP splash screen, you cant get into the BIOS or recover as it just says 'entering setup'.

Im just about to disassemble it now, Im thinking it could be the hard drive or RAM.

Any one else run into this problem or have any ideas what it could be?

Thanks in advance

Something going wrong during POST that's for sure. I'd first find a CMOS battery and pull that for a while, see what's what after that.

Made some progress, got it apart and the hard drive is dead, tried it with a new hard drive and its fine.

New problem, my client never made any recovery disks, and as the hard drive is dead i cant use the partition on to recover from.

I can get some recovery disks from HP for £35, is there anywhere else to get the from. A download would be great so i can get it back to them ASAP.

Thanks

Restore disks are in the US and you'll wait about 2 weeks for the disks. I've used http://www.gennersales.com/ and they can give you a digital download. Around £18 - £30 depending on the model.

You beat me too it, I was going to say the hard drive was dead. I have seen this twice on the HP TouchSmarts as well as many other computers.

Thanks for all the help guys

I have done some research after getting the hard drive out, after a few hours googling i have found out that there has been a firmware release by seagate as there was a glitch in the software on the drive that caused the hard drive to just crash at a random point.

Iv taken this up with HP as the drive was an OEM, HP should sort this as they shipped the faulty drive

The hard drive affected was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11.

Just something to keep your eyes out for as the manufacture should sort it
