HP Recovery Disk question.

My question is does the HP recovery disk process ask for a product key during or after setup?
Or does HP use the SLP key on their recovery disks?
It's been a while since I did an HP recovery. I deal mostly with Dells and never needed a key after a reload with them.
I've read that if the drive is replaced the SLP key isn't recognized on some HP's. is this true?

This is Windows 7 Home Premium. on a G60-635DX notebook.
The COA sticker is wrecked and un-readable. I'm pretty sure I can call MS and get it, but I'd rather not.

This laptop had a pretty badly malfed up boot sector virus. and wouldn't boot at all.
After removal the system BSOD'd on boot. There were no restore points. I don't have any 64bit home premium media, so only a few of the recovery options would work.
I rescued the user data and started the recovery from the recovery partition but the system still wouldn't boot. (Error 0x4001001300001002. If this issue continues, please contact HP support.)
HP's solution is to run the recovery from the disks, which the customer never made. So i ordered a set.

I did one a couple of weeks ago and it didn't ask for the key from memory.

To the OP, in general, all of the OEM CD's will not ask for the CD key... I've done this with all of the major brands so far.
