Picked this one up tonight because the fans were extremely loud and upon inspection it appears that they were running at or near 100%. I normally go in to the BIOS and change the fan settings but it appears the HP have stripped most of the features out of the BIOS and I cant change much.

I've cleaned the heatsink/cpu and reapplied some thermal paste which is standard practice for me whenever I get something like this, updated the BIOS to the latest version off the HP website, and I've also tried using SpeedFan to see if I can control the fans that way, but it only works briefly and then they spin back up to 100% again.

SpeedFan is giving me four temperature readings:
Temp1 29C
Temp2 54C
Temp3 -128C
HD0 29C

Any ideas?

Clear or flash the bios perhaps?

I know HP's answer to some overheating problems has been to produce an updated bios that puts the fan on 100% all the time so perhaps that won't help. :-(
