hello i have a hp dv9000 which has a red background screen and the blacks are showing flickering red lines i have connected to an external monitor and that is fine so that would suggest the graphics are ok ? i have changed screen and screen cable and still have the same issue i have just updated the drivers on the nvidia graphics but still same issue any help please ?

Just because the external output is ok, doesn't mean the GPU isn't at fault. What GPU is installed, I suspect its either a NVidia GeForece 84 or 86 series which are known to be cause issues.

Google NVidia defect and DV9, there is tons of information out there. Sounds to me like it is the NVidia issue. It's essentially caused by a manufacturing fault. Reflowing or reballing can resolve the issue but is not always a permanent fix.

Yep, people hate to hear it but a lot of the dv 6000/9000 and Presario v3000/v6000 are fit for the garbage as soon as they develop video issues. There are patchwork fixes, but nothing I would feel comfortable charging a customer money for, especially with them all being 3+ years old at this point.

I have reflowed a few of these, it's not too hard and doesn't take long.
As long as you make the client aware that if you do a repair you cannot offer a guarantee for the work as it is a common fault, then they are generally grateful for the fix.

I agree with what people have said here, During my time in repairs not all dv9000 display issues but 98% were down to the Nvidia chips. Having these reflowed was never a guarantee, some would fail again within a week and some would last 6+ months. HP themselves advised they were aware of this problem but never corrected it, instead just advised instead of reflowing just replace the mainboard, again this would not solve the problem as it had not been corrected by HP. A very bad machine for this problem
