Greetings everyone,

I picked up a client from another tech. I have already pop the video cable to goes from the LCD to the motherboard once. His previous tech also pop the cable in, however, I made recommendations which made him switch (good for me :D)

The cable has come out again. What I dislike about the cable plug is that on this model it sits on its side so you push it is side ways (sorry if it does not make sense, I would add a picture if I had one). On other laptops the same cable get pushed in from the top and probably this help it stay in place since the top of the plastics/keyboard area sits on top.

Anyways, it seems that the plug is worn out and it keeps coming out. I was thinking about using a very light glue or some sort of tape.

Have any of you come across similar situations, if so what did you use?

I do not want a truly permanent method in case I need to replace the LCD etc. I would like something that will stay and not easily come out unless I choose to remove it.

Thank you

Are the retaining wedges broken - this happens all too easily?

Hot melt glue or candle wax both come off easily and don't damage the components.

Thank you guys. I didn't even think about hot glue gun.

Is Kapton tape, like electrical tape but able to wistsand more heat and cold etc? Sorry I with I would have paid attention when I took electronics log ago.

The connector did not break, it is just worn out so for some unknow reason it keeps coming out every few months or so.

Thank you for you advise.

I've used a small dab of hot glue many a time, but have since moved to using Kapton tape for most applications.

Either will work for this purpose, and both are easily removable if required.

Amazing the things that you learn when you read posts that have nothing to do with any problem you might have, I have never even heard of Kapton tape

Thanks for the insight!

Dang, I just picked up this client and he is calling me on my warranty work. The video cable came off and now wants (well, he actually asked) warranty support. I don't mind doing it since I want the client but now I will be using hot glue (which I have to buy).

I will not charge to the work but now I have to use additional steps/methods and glue. I don't want to sound cheat but do I charge him anything or should I just do it since I connected the cable 2 weeks ago?

1 - How easy will the hot glue come off if I need to remove it?
2 - Actually my wife the hot glue and gun but I doesn't how to remove the glue after it has set
3 - Is Kapton tape like electrical much but much better? --> Its says good for insulation and wave soldering. I need to hold 2 connectors in place this seems like it can insulate and conduct electricity or am I wrong? Is this a much better electrical tape? OKay I wikipedia it and its a very good tape. I'll use it as long as it will keep the 2 connectors (male and female) connected.

I will also buy some of that tape so like a good boy scout be prepared :)

Thank you
