Hi, I am trying to get a usb hp 1315 printer to be installed.

It use to work on the computer at one point. Windows xp machine.

When I put the printer cable it, it doesn't recognize anything, just like you didnt put it in.

Trouble shooting steps..

Other usb devices seem to work or be recognized

Deleted drivers and had them reinstall

Tried a system retore.

Tested printer on other computer, with same cables and was detected.

USB is enabled in bios.

removed and reinstalled hp software and driver.

Checked registry as suggested by http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=764981

I got to admit I am stumped, it just seems like something is blocking the usb from being recognized. But only for this one device

Plug and play is set to automatic and seems to be working for other devices.

Doesn't come up during add new hardware..

Of course printer is on etc.

Try verifying what format (1.1, 2.0,) the USB devices are that work. See if there is any pattern which would indicate a version issue.

Change the USB cable. If cable is going bad it can work on second and not the next. Try a USB expansion card or hub and see what happens.

What OS is the problem machine?

Sounds like you're being thorough! Here's something you could take a shot at.

Take a look at all of the USB devices registered on the computer using NirSoft's USB Device Viewer:
www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

If the printer already shows up, remove it from the list, then try plugging it back into the USB jack again so it can be recognized from scratch.

... and like wepo suggested, try another USB cable.

Go to the device manager and then pull up the Universal Serial Bus Controllers and look to see if you have "USB Printing/Printer Support".

Well after extensive testing it looks like a power issue with the main computer. Very strange issue I must say. So I just hooked the printer up to another computer, works great. Ill be taking the computer in for testing after the weekend
