In Novell, clear text passwords can be used. My teacher told me that long ago they were used in the lab to make it easy for the sysadmin to reset the student's accounts. How is this done?

"Warning! Selecting this option poses a security risk because it allows LDAP clients to use unencrypted connections to send data (including passwords) to the LDAP server in clear text form."

Why would you want to enable cleartext to begin with? Unless it's just a grumpy, old prof trying to prove how smart he is.

Here's the question:
6] Why do you think (a real answer please, not 'Cause they are stupid') that the old CSC I271 book instructed us to use clear text passwords [Hint: the textbook was designed to be used in a lab setting like this class has]? [Only well thought out and defended answers will receive credit. If you are unsure, discuss with your professor before writing something down.]

I told him my thoughts and he gave me some hints as to what the answer is... eventually he told me that they were used so they could quickly reset student's passwords.
