Amazing how a five-year-old daughter with a pony can gallop you straight into a second mortgage, isn't it? 😄 From saddle soap to ribbons and rosettes, she rode the full course - jumps, mud, and all! Between vets, farriers, feed stores, saddlers and tack shops, my wallet was always empty!
And now, 42 years later, she’s still horsing around - just with a judge’s clipboard (she's a fully qualified Pony Club Judge!), and a calmer canter. Life may have pulled on the reins a little for her, but it clearly never loosened the girth on her love for horses. What a fantastic journey for her and I - I wouldn't have missed it for the world - hoofbeats and all!

And dial up? Yack!

It's all relative. When I started out my academic training, we were doing programs on punch cards. It was a huge step up to get to use text editors with a 300 BAUD line instead. And the slow march toward faster speed has continued, unrelenting, and picking up speed of its own ever since.

It's not that I look back at all wistfully, though. But there's something to be said for the perspective gained by not having had instant gratification in the world of computing/cyberspace (and elsewhere, for that matter).

Absolutely 100% agree! Many of us started with NO internet at all and had to carry work back and forth, when we worked at home, like I did much of the time right before we had any kind of dial up at all.
