hot checks...

Check with your bank about Check Protection. Most business accounts are able to get this and the service fee is usually small.

Check with your bank about Check Protection
I thought this service was to avoid fees if YOU accidentally wrote a check that would bounce NSF. Automatically transferring funds from another account you own to cover it. Are you referring to a service that somehow protects you against RECEIVING checks that are NSF?

Correct, with my bank they offer "CheckTrack". I have a little sign on the door and at the POS that says "If your check is dishonoured... your account will be automatically debited $50 processing fee...etc etc"

Here's my banks PDF Sell sheet on the service:

how of curiosity do you stop at the bank on that same day to put it in your account or wait till EOW?
I've always stopped in the bank at that same day. I have 2 today, deposited.

Thanks phazed! I didn't know this idea existed. I'll have to ask my bank about it. I'm not sure how that works, though. I assume ach requests get higher priority or something...

We go to the bank every day with the previous day's checks. And by "we", I mean my wife, who is our phone person. I find it easier to do my bookkeeping every day. That way, i'm never behind.

Yeah I've put a couple bad check writers in the greybar hotel. It wasn't the act that got them but the contempt of court when they failed to show for the hearings. Now I rarely take a check from anyone except established business clients. With the advent of debit cards, personal checks shouldn't be necessary if people really have the funds.

Haven't had a bad check in ages. When we did I would scan it and print it on 17x22 size paper and put it on the wall. The offenders would usually come in within a couple of weeks to demand it be taken down. I would fulfill their request for the amount of the check plus $25 fee.

lol. I like it.

Reminds me of this Seinfeld episode:
