Hooked up new hard drive, icon doesn't show up in "My Computer" window

I have a Dell Dimension 4550. I installed a second hard drive for more storage. The 160 HD shows up in the BIOS but when I go to "My Computer", the icon for the HD doesn't show up.

What am possibly doing wrong? Please advise.

Open control panel, admin tools, computer management, disk management, right click on the new drive and chose to initialize the disk.

Did you check to see if the hard drive is formatted in a file system readable by windows. or if it is formatted at all.

Try to restart, see if it's correctly installed, see if the self substaining drivers work, see if divine intervention messed up, ext.

I'd go with Afford-A-Tech. A new HDD has to be formatted in a file system (Fat32/NTFS) before its readable by any version of Windows.

If for some reason you can't resolve your issue in Windows, reboot and make sure the drive is listed in the POST screen when the machine boots up.
