Hey guys, few questions..

I'm probabaly like all of you, the person all your friends and family called for computer problems and now I want to make some money off it. Im in the process of taking 2 computer courses that will prepare me for the A+ cert. I know its not as important if you freelance but it looks professional so why not. My question is, what are the most common problems on-site techs face when it comes to Homes and Offices.. All input would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

Thanks man.. Also, are there seminars in NY, (long island preff) on data recovery ect..? I've never had to recover data when my HD crashed because I would just format.. Is it as simple as loading a boot disk for the program, picking the files and sending them to your USB or burner ect. than formating?

data recovery is a fun yet very borning. it took me a wile to pick up different things to try pulling data from. the best thing to do is get a how bunch of different hard drives try reading the data. do your research one different software and hard ware that will help you. (my fav little toy right now is a USB to SATA/EIDE comverter)

Nospicer, so you use a USB to EIDE covnreter and the USB acts as a hard drive and you just transfer the files over? If the computer supoprts usb, can you just plug in the thumb drive and transfer that way? what program do you like to use also?

what i do is use and usb to ide converter cable. take the "bad" hard drve out of the computer. put the canle on it and put it to the side. update my virescanner/s on a good computer with enought space to handle the data comming in. the i put the "bad" hard drive to the good system. and see how it reacts. If the data is there and i can see the files i start moving the data to a folder that i created. if the hard drive ask me to formate or it is blank i run a programs from ontrack called Easy Recovery. the main reason i like to do a drive to drive move is you might have just the one time to get the data out of the "bad" hard drive. and most of the time doing a recovery on the bad system is a pain cause you don't know what other problems the computer has. Plus the computer you are using to do the moving is (in my case) faster and more up to date with hardware and software. as for the USB/EIDE?SATA cable it just make any harddrive a exturnal hard drive.

oh im sorry, what exactly is the difference? Im looking for stratigies to get important files from a PC that cant boot. If the pc is able to boot than i can just do a simple copy from HD to my USB or Ext. HD right?

i look at it like this if i can see the data and coping to a different media is in my book data retrival

now if it been delete and or gone from the hard drive or blank or going bad as in clicks or strange sounds comming from it it falls under recovery.

as for your problem with a system that will not boot i will just use the USB/EIDE/SATA cable and move the data with a good system first then scan it for virus then. if it will fit on a jump drive or ext. hd when i deal with people i tend to give there data back on dvd after scaning.
