This topic is inspired by the fact that I just hit 1,666 posts and it was sort of a tiny "shock" to see the triple-6 part. Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia, or the fear of three sixes in line is a common phobia mostly by people of the Christian religion, however the number has, over the years, become a taboo by even non-Christians. People avoid this number in many odd ways, like for example, June 6th of any 6'th ending year (e.g. 06/06/06) or people will see a bill such as $16.66 and grab something cheap off the racks like a pack of gum in order to avoid the number. Some people even go as far as avoiding a phone number, or requesting a phone number change if there are too many sixes, or in extreme cases too many G's, O's Q's 6's and 0's in their license place in order to avoid their license plate even remotely looking like the "dreaded number".

Have you guys ever had any clients, or do you in fact have Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia? If so, share your story.

I saw a video online explaining social security numbers and it said that there is some sort of plans to start all new numbers with 666, which I found to be be VERY strange? I just looked and can't find the video now.

I am always surprised by the fact that otherwise intelligent people believe in such ridiculous superstition. Numbers are man made. Prices are man made. Mythology is man made.

Let's hear it for some arachnophobia!! Those nasty creatures are REAL!

Here is the video about social security numbers and the idea to start using 666 as the first 3 digits.

Skip to the 1 minute mark, if you don't want to watch the whole thing. It's a short video and pretty interesting though.

You got the link wrong. The proper link would be here. also, the guy said that they would not be issuing any social security numbers beginning with 9 or 666. But still, a fantastic video nonetheless. Oh, and about the social security semi-random numbering system, Who knew? I knew. My brother and I were actually born in the same hospital, on the same day, exactly three years apart, down to the hour (It's more like 2 years, 364 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes...) and our social security numbers are nearly identical.

Numbers may be man designed as in drawing, but they are not man made.
They have existed like the Universe. One solar system, 9 planets, etc, etc.
Not easy to grasp.
I do believe in the magic of numbers as in being able to find, predict, calculate, etc (mathematics) but not the mythology and religious meaning.
To me, god is an IMAGINARY FRIEND created by adults from need of protection after loosing their "always protected" status when children become adults,
and the need to explain things in nature which they did not understand.
No offence intended.

Edit.
For my peanut brain, religion is the tool or better said product (selling product) invented by the canny who realized everybody has the need of an IMAGINARY FRIEND.

"Your remaining credit is 666 minutes"

Today I bought an £5.00 international calling card (I am sick of the Skype's high prices).
It's for EU countries.
At first call, after I entered the phone number I wanted to call, a voice said:
"Your remaining credit is 666 minutes"

I believe that the entire premise that the 666 is the "number of the beast" is incorrect in the first place, making the whole thing even more ridiculous than it would seem.

From what I read, the Christians wrote messages and political graffitti in code to avoid punishment by the Romans. The "beast" was supposedly the Emperor of the time and the numbers made up code for his name. However the it of paper found was incomplete and appeared to be 666. Later on it, after they worked out what it stood for, it turned out to actually be something like 606.

I.e. the beast is not the devil and the number was 666 anyway. But why let the facts stand in the way of a good superstition.

Good one.
Finally a really good reply.
