I am having a hell of a time getting a part from Australian HP parts supplier, EMPR.

I purchased replacement top lid, which came with TOP hinge caps, but no bottom caps. They can't supply.

Would be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL to anyone who can help. Happy to pay part plus postage plus your mark-up for sourcing.

Can anyone help me get hold of external hinge covers for this model:

Model:
dv6-6b05tx

Product:
A3E19PA#ABG

Serial:
2CE14123FG

The part I need is the lower hinge caps (both sides)

Need ASAP as customer has run out of patience with delays, and I have not been able to source using official supplier or anyone local.

I can possibly get these to you, however the cost of shipping to austrailia is the problem. If your ok with it let me know, ill also submit a request for a quote.

Is there anything on pchub.com at all Jim?

Sorry, but I have not looked on the site for your actual part, but any hard to find bits I need, that is usually my first place to look.

Thanks for the suggestion. They appear to have 'dv6-6000' (the model I have here) TOP hinge covers but not the bottom hinge cover that I need for this repair.

That is the part # I thought it was. It's in the link I posted, but he said it was the wrong part.

These are the top caps that fit under the screen bezel. If you can imagine the opposite counterpart to these (without screw holes at the top), thats what I need.

im at a loss, ive sent the details you said to HP to see if they can figure out the part you need..hoping they hit it...otherwise guessing you dont have an image of the old part?

Hi Jim,

I found the manual here. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03015537.pdf

Go to page 30, item number (3) for the hinge cover part number 665313-001

Looks like this is an En-Zed model. Hope this helps my friend.

Mike, thanks a heap. At least now I can see why EMPR are scratching their heads. So its evident in the illustration page 30 that the TOP hinge covers fit under the bezel, and these are the part I have.. I cant find any mention in the manual of a bottom hinge cover kit, and I think thats why this is causing such a conundrum.

From what I can see there, it looks like an ommission in the manual. Given that you guys cant seem to find the part either, and the manual doesnt list it, I think that the only solution is for me to go get creative with some plastisteel.

I have attached a copy of the part I have, and which is the only hinge cap I can find in the Manual. Clearly if there was only one 'type' it would be possible to interlock it to cover the top and bottom sections of the hinge.

As you can see if you try to put these together to cover top and bottom its a no-go. They are designed to fit into a counterpart, not a mirror-part.

Im stumped.

Darn it. Since your part doesn't show in the manual, I would suspect there has been a different origin of manufacture for that model. I note that for HP's there is usually a suffix at the end of the model number like "us" or "nr" and in your case "tx" which may tie that version to place of manufacture or a series version of sorts.

EDIT: Hang on Jim. Are you saying that there is some other part besides 665313-001 (3) and part number 665314-001 (1)? If so, then this would be an instance where HP has published this manual to cover a range of models and not show all the details of a specific model. If true, that is unfortunate. :( The only other thing I would try is to order both parts and hope that the right bottom hinge cover is included. Come to think of it, I've ordered parts before from hp and found that their illustrations were poor but the part was correct. Could be worth a try.

Man! the only other thing I would think to do is try to locate another exact model of that laptop for the part. Maybe there is another "broken" one out there in the notebook junk yard waiting to donate its unique parts.

Wish I could do more. :o
