HELP! ? need help to source part for DV6 HP laptop - can anyone assist??

Darn it. Since your part doesn't show in the manual, I would suspect there has been a different origin of manufacture for that model. I note that for HP's there is usually a suffix at the end of the model number like "us" or "nr" and in your case "tx" which may tie that version to place of manufacture or a series version of sorts.

EDIT: Hang on Jim. Are you saying that there is some other part besides 665313-001 (3) and part number 665314-001 (1)? If so, then this would be an instance where HP has published this manual to cover a range of models and not show all the details of a specific model. If true, that is unfortunate. :( The only other thing I would try is to order both parts and hope that the right bottom hinge cover is included. Come to think of it, I've ordered parts before from hp and found that their illustrations were poor but the part was correct. Could be worth a try.

Man! the only other thing I would think to do is try to locate another exact model of that laptop for the part. Maybe there is another "broken" one out there in the notebook junk yard waiting to donate its unique parts.

Wish I could do more. :o

Thanks a heap for all your efforts I really appreciate you looking into this in so much depth.

In regard to the part numbers, yes, I am saying there needs to be a part other than 665313-001 (3) and part number 665314-001

5313 is the hinges
5314 is the TOP caps that go from the bezel over the top section of the hinges.

In regard to whats been tried, (probably should have stated this at the outset but wanted to keep the initial post brief) - Originally I replaced the screen bezel with a new part from EMPR. That bezel came with 5314 (L&R).

I then contacted EMPR and requested the BOTTOM caps (counterpart) and they sent me 5314 as a separate order.

I phoned them and told them it was the wrong part, and they said they had no idea, and would follow up with HP.

That was a week ago. I have emailled them twice and still no result, so from what I can see their contacts in HP parts division seem to have no idea either.

Yes there are a couple of great HP parts guys local, but no one with an identical top lid/hinge caps for this particular model. I could probably source a complete laptop but that would blow the cost to me far over what I can charge the customer and mean a big loss on the job. The more I look into this (now with the help of Technibble community) the more its looking like its time to get out the plastisteel.

Its a total bloody mystery what part number (if it exists) refers to the BOTTOM hinge caps that are the counterpart to the top caps pictured above. :(

Well, if you decide to go that route, please consider posting the finished product of your handiwork. I hope PaulRome's lead works out.
