Client has a laptop with a weird issue.
She has Skype for keeping in touch with relatives in UK.
2 days ago she turned on the laptop and went to invoke Skype. No desktop shortcut, no task bar shortcut, no start menu entry, no shortcut in All Programs.
So she calls me and I remote in.
No Program Files or Add/Remove Programs entry either?
Quick search for anything "Skype" gets nada!
Just for giggles I opened regedit and searched for anything "Skype" - nothing?!
It was completely and utterly gone!
Checked event logs, nothing. Ran LastActivityView thinking she may have uninstalled it. No.
So I download Skype and run the installer get no errors or problems Skype opens and she is happy.
Today she calls and says Skype is gone!
It was exactly the same thing, nothing left of Skype.
She told me she was chatting with Mum & Dad and briefly left them to get a cup of tea. She heard the familiar Skype closing sound and came back to see that Skype had closed and disappeared!
Utterly gone!
She brought the laptop to me and after checking Event Logs, (again, nothing) I reinstalled Skype
and left it on while I worked.
About 15 minutes later I heard the closing tone from Skype.
Sure enough it had disappeared again.
Ran Process Monitor looking for anything that may have been running that could stop Skype, but all other processes were "normal."
She has no third party software apart from MS Office 2013, Emsisoft Antimalware and Opera Browser, which, apart from the AM, were closed at the time.
I left Procmon running and reinstalled Skype from the downloaded .exe. Nothing odd, nothing that looks suspicious etc.15 minutes later its gone again!
Ran gsmartcontrol HDD ok, ran HardDisk Sentinel all ok, ran SFC all ok, ran chkdsk (seeing as how the drive was healthy) still the same.
Nothing much on google either?
