Google Adwords on a competitor?

You should just crank out a few SEO blogs and after a bunch, you don't need paid ads. Read my blog series here, it's free to read, my ebook is $5. I think you can swing that. SEO blogging is how I stopped paying for "Outlook Expert" ads in Google. I did a national campaign and paid $100 a week or so. I always got clicks but wanted to skip paying Google. In time I did. I think you could probably kick butt in a month or less considering your town is small. Here is the link to the learning series. https://callthatgirl.com/learn-marketing-and-seo-yourself-blog-series

I don't think you should wear the black hat here, it's just not ethical and what says the first time your competitor searches google and sees your add he wont turn around and do the same thing? Now you are both spending money but not gaining anything, sounds like a no win to me. Google will be happy to take your money though!

That's why I said do SEO on the blogs, the competitor will see it and wonder what you're doing and they will spend time trying to keep up.

It is quite an interesting point by the way. Do I rather give my time to Google or my money? What can be the considerations? Do-it-once versus long-term commitment? Looks to me like both SEO and adwords are long-term commitments. Go with whichever is cheaper? But which one is cheaper and how do I find it out? Surprisingly complex thing, actually.

SEO blogs last as long as your site is up. I have some from my early years in 2011 still doing well. Learning SEO blogging is a value add skill for yourself. After I learned how to do, I have blogs galore now that rank in Google for many keywords.

Pay google or learn it yourself. You pay with money or labor.

Yeah, but competition also works on SEO. In AdWords, I complete with them by spending money, and in SEO I compete with them by spending time. Because if I do nothing, and they do something, they will rise above me. So it looks to me like a similar competition, although maybe less obvious.
