It's absolutely no secret with me that I plan on being a millionaire. Ever since day one I shot out of the gate, with only the intentions of making it big. Why think small? You will STAY small. Think big and you can get there. Your dreams build the roads that get you to the money pot. If you stop dreaming of how big you can be, then you will just stay as is.
I've been FT since January 2008 and I am now just starting to build the empire to get me to the mills. It will take a few more years, but I have enjoyed the ride so far! I'm glad I didn't take out a huge loan and skip the hard stuff.
When I consult to other small business owners, the first thing I ask them is this..."Do you want to stay a small shop or do you want to be a millionaire". Eyes pop open. Like it's never dawned on them to think big. How you set up your business allows you to get big, to have the mills.

But there's nothing wrong with wanting to stay small. Like several have mentioned already, a comfortable living doing a job they love is all they want. For me, extra cash in my pocket is all I'm looking for. I enjoy helping others and solving problems. So if I can put the two together, I'm golden. My dad used to always say, "Find a job you love doing and the rest will follow." That seems to be the philosophy of many in this thread.

yes there is a problem with wanting to stay small; you only have one life to live, why waste it just getting by. If you're going to go into IT , why not do it with pride, and go all out. Sure do other things, but the time you spend on IT, why not invest in web marketing knowledge, more training, grooming employees, and reading up on how to attract and keep good people that work for you, accounting skills/best practices, re-negotiate rates with your vendors, etc etc............there's always things you can do. If you only have 8 hours a day to do them, do 3 things at once.......you'll be surprised how much you can get done with google, 3 logmein rescue windows open, and a pot of coffee

Wow I have to say that I'm actually shocked and disappointed at some of the attitudes in this thread.
I think the people that just want to stay small and comfortable are too afraid to be /that/ successful or perhaps insecure.
We can all be rich if we believe it. If you plan the goals to achieve such success. The secret is not to be a one man army but to have multiple streams of income and to achieve passive and residual income from many sources. To make money while you sleep. You can not build an empire on your own but you certainly can build one.
I've read books like Think and Grow Rich from Napoleon Hill, Robert Kiyosaki Rich Dad Poor Dad, Gone to T. Harv Eker's Millionaire mind seminars, etc.. I've also have quite a few clients who are very wealthy.
If I've learned anything it is that you need to think big to achieve big and you must believe it with all your heart to get there.
I would have thought that people on these forums being of the entrepreneur mindset would see the potential that is there in computers.
Look at Google, Facebook, Youtube, and ebay. Just ideas that have made many individuals very very wealthy. So why not YOU?

I'm just a freelance guy. No storefront.
Personally I don't want the stress and headaches that would come with expanding to a storefront operation with overhead, employees, corporate formality paperwork, rent, advertising costs, financial risk, etc.... If you want to grow into a big business you must SELL YOUR SOUL to your business. Not for me.
For me I just want to earn supplemental income, meet people in my neighborhood, enjoy the freedom of being my own boss, not having to deal with the stress and headaches of running a big boat.
Also I can't help but wonder if in 10 or 15 years computers will be more and more like throw-a-way appliances. I remember back in the Windows 95 days when computers were around $2,000. Now you can buy awesome laptops for under $500.

I agree totally and have read these books you speak of as well. It boggles my mind when people settle for less and say they cant do certain things. Look at the things around us how valuable will your current retirement be 50 years from now?? I forget the exact percentage but its amazing how many people are programmed from schools or parents to "work" like an employee all their life making the "owners" rich. There is another side, its a smaller percentage but once you take your entrepreneurial thoughts and make them reality you join the successful quadrant of the pie. Own your own business and take it to the sky.
Put your self in the owners shoes of big companies "think" like they do. The owner of Mc Donalds doesn't rush down to his local Mc Donald's and make sure theres a marketing strategy in place or worry about customers coming in. He took an object as simple as a hamburger perfected it, showed others how to do the same and repeat, repeat over and over. The thing is now he never has to think of those little tasty hamburgers ever again. He sits on the left side of the pie enjoys this one life we have to live and all the workers on the right side of the pie continue to do what they are programmed to do.

Don't get me wrong, I love technology it is my passion for sure. But for me the computers are like the hamburgers once I can get them perfected and teach others, it on to the next.
