I got into PC gaming back around '97. Buddy of mine introduced me to Descent. We didnt own a PC at the time but my dad had a laptop from work that he basically never used. Something like a Pentium 100 that ran Win95 and Dos I think. Anyway my friend was crazy good at this game and taught me how to play it. Started first buy doing direct 56k dialup to my buddy and then later on he showed me a program (there were a few at the time) that allowed you to play these older IPX stacked games online over TCP/IP. It was called Kali. You might remember Heat, Kahn, Gamespy, but Kali was the best. Anyway, we played a ton of Descent with other members and some other games too like Quakeworld TF, Warcraft 2, Starcraft ,etc.

I was actually surprised to find out that there is still a group of people keeping the old Descent alive. It's called DXX Rebirth and you can play it on a modern PC and it has online game-play built in, although good luck finding a game. Also if you are wondering, the Kali network is still up although the only people that are around are in the old Descent chatroom and yes I still have mine and connect up from time to time but nobody plays there anymore.

I really havent been impressed with PC gaming in the last decade or so. It really seems like it took a back seat to console gaming which I was never a fan of. One PC game that I am excited for though is Anthem:

 
Oooo! I like the looks of Anthem. First I've heard of it.

The depth and breadth of Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain that I have been playing has been impressive. I've put 100 hours into it and am not even half way. I like how it is supposed to be all stealth but you can Rambo at any time with just the loss of a few points - heh.

What happened to a gaming forum?
 
To me playing third person is no different than watching a movie. You just get to control the character.
There are many, many games that could have been brilliant except for the inaneness and puerility of being third person.
 
Some games it works - like as stated Deadspace. Some games it would be good for a 3rd or 1st alternate. Some games work well in a 3rd person Action/Adventure games such as Tombraider, Assassins Creed etc.

Yup, early Windows 95 days....I loved that game. I didn't have a joystick yet, so just for this game, I picked up some...not really a joystick, but it was called something like the "orb 360 controller".

Not as much. I do recall, back in high school, I did enjoy playing a game called "Eastern Front" or something similar, it was eastern front of Germany in WWII against Russia. Written in Basic, loaded onto my computer via cassette.

Prior to that, board games..enjoyed Risk! But yeah, for computers, I was mostly all FPS combat type games.
 
I'm looking for new games. Finished Far Cry 5........meh! After that I'm not sure I want to try New Dawn.....

Can we get a gaming forum instead of just a thread? @Bryce W ?

Heck Ya! I remember the Voodoo series especially the 3000 with it's humongous 16 MB of RAM - chuckles. Since I work out of my house I have a "Retail Corner" with a bargain basement budget shelf. I back it with the box cover/artwork from my old Voodoo 3000 just for some nostalgia although I'm sure customers think it's bleeding edge......

My favorite game of all time is fallout 2. I have replayed it every which way. I really like the open world games. fallout skyrim, just cause, fry cry. REd dead redemption 2. Recently i have been playing fortnite with my kids. They love it. Its ok but enjoy spending time with them.

I've tried to like Fallout 3 and 4 really hard but I just leave the game after 15-20 hours frustrated and depressed. The series is so dark and depressing I'm surprised it's so popular. The artwork and graphics are amazing but again hidden by the dark, dim and gloomy atmosphere that's almost always present. I'm tired and dizzy of scrounging for every bullet and their weapons that are almost useless.
 
I remember starting with an Ibm p2 with 32mb Ram lan gaming through a hub.

Think we were playing Delta force or something at the time.
