Fusion Drive File Recovery

Hi All,

We have an iMac "Core i5" 3.3 27-Inch (5K, Late 2015) that was electrocuted.

We've pulled the 2TB HDD and the 128 GB Fusion drive.

I am not actually certain if the data is OK or not.

Does anyone know how mount the two drives together (barring having a surrogate to mount it in)?

@lcoughey - This may be coming your way, but I was hoping I might get any hints you might have on things we can do before we go down this road. Now, you might say "STOP!, do not proceed, send to me". Which is good too.

If you can clone the drives, you should be able to connect both as secondary drives to another mac and have it automatically mount.

Came back to the office last night to check on the status and all was well.

203 GB of personal and business data all accounted for.

The drives were actually OK, but the system... phew... gone.

Nice recovery!

I have never came across a fusion drive yet. So my understanding of this is they are two separate drives, then when they(or clones) are plugged into the same mac it sees them as a single drive in the case of recovery(kind of like a raid)? When it comes to reinstalling on a fusion drive(s), is there anything special you need to do?

Yeah, it's just a OS X RAID type setup so to speak. I've have several recoveries of OS X RAID. As long as there is no corruption you can mount them on another OS X system as attached devices.
