apple is so messed up in the head

Apple products are sold at astronomical prices, for ancient tech that cannot be serviced. Honestly, what is there to like?

And yes, I hate Samsung and the rest on the tablet / smart phone side for the exact same reasons, but at least their stuff is competitively priced.

Only Apple can demand $2500 for a 4 year old laptop.

But if the client wants to pay the stupid tax, let them. I support the things as well as I can within Apple's constraints.

it’s like “i only work on windows computers because hating Apple is what i do
I dont hate Apple products, I hate that Apple doesn't want to give or side with customers and IT businesses the right to repair including the right to new parts when every other PC company does. Their business practices are in my opinion unethical. They created their eco-system, as bad as it is - and all they push is for more sales. They are the ones whom created the Apple tax. Have a 2 year old laptop with a cracked screen? "We could fix it for $1000 but we recommend/prefer you to buy a new one for $1400." If you live in a humid climate and have an iPhone your almost certain that the little dots aren't white after just a few months for "reasons".
and i refuse to work or to learn to work on Apple products
I know how to work on Apple products. I keep up with ways to fix them and I DO work on Apple, I just don't advertise it. We could actually fix more Apple products if they (Apple) would stop the practice of ceasing parts at customs or "phoning home" when a part is replaced that is not coded to the product to which it replaced.
I really don’t understand the hatred for Apple
Again, I don't hate the products, just their business practices.

As far as the "tax" goes or pricing, I charge near about what Apple charges. If a customer doesn't want to travel the hour down the road to an Apple store, then it is what it is. As an example, I had a client not too long ago take his laptop to an Apple store and they wanted to charge him $450 to fix his issue of no WiFi. He brought it to me and I charge half of what Apple wanted and all I did was reconnect the WiFi antenna back to the WiFi adapter. Did I charge too much? No.

^ This..

I have no hatred of Apple, though I do not prefer their products. They have, for decades, had superior designers for "the visible stuff" but the underlying hardware is, as far as I'm concerned, grossly overpriced for what it is.

I also find these devices significantly more difficult to tear down if that becomes necessary, so I don't do any service when that point is reached. I'll refer to someone else who is far more comfortable than I am with Apple hardware in that case. Let's not get into parts cost, either.

I also dislike Apple because of their undeniable "you vill do vat ve vant, und you vill enjoy it!" approach to their ecosystems. While that can and often does have the advantage of keeping a certain demographic of users from shooting themselves in the foot, it makes customizing things to my taste anything from more difficult to impossible.

In the array of choices that is available, I place Apple dead last. And that's not due to irrational hatred, but to the factors mentioned above.
