First time ordering a laptop screen

So a guy called me and told me he "accidently" punched his laptop and now the screen is broken. His laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S5857. I can't find a screen for that model, but I did find a screen for an A215-S5807. It is a 15.4" screen which is what I need. Do you think it will work? Or should I not take a chance and make sure the models match up perfectly?

Also, if I can't find the exact same model online, could I call Toshiba and order one directly from them? I know it'd be more expensive, but could I do that?

Seeing as the customer will be paying for the part, I would probably order it directly from toshiba. Or at least ask toshiba if the "A215-S5857" will be compatible with the original screen. If they won't sell you one direct, ask them where your nearest reseller is.

Think about it this way - If you purchase the wrong screen, you are lumbered with the expense. I would make sure I purchase the correct one in the first place.

Try doing a search for a model comparison. Since the model numbers are so close it would make me think it's basically the same computer with minor configuration changes like memory, HD, video card, etc. If that's the case you shouldn't have a problem using that screen assuming there was only one screen option for that line which is probably the case since you said it's the same size.

If you have the laptop, take the screen out and get the model number of the screen itself. (something like LTN154W01, or whatever it is)

Then buy it from DVDSuper999 on ebay for probably a third of what Toshiba would sell it for.

I *never* order a screen based on the model of the laptop. It costs too much, and there's always a (small) risk that you get the wrong screen.

That is what I thought about doing but DVD Super One doesn't even list the part number for the screen on the auction so I can't really tell what they are selling. I found this pretty cool site called http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com. It's got a nice tool to help you find what you are looking for and the prices are reasonable. I think I'll just use it to try and figure out if the 5807 screen will work for the 5857.

I'm not really sure what you mean.....the auction specifically lists the screen model number every time.
For example: This auction is for a QD15TL01 screen. That's the model number of the screen, not any manufacturer's part number. That's listed in the auction title, and twice in the auction itself....

You get that model number on the screen itself...so, like I said, if you have the screen there just buy based on that. Sparepartswarehouse is charging about $60-70 more for the same screen.


Here's one example of a screen I bought just today.
Spareparts price: (lowest price listed) $294.44

I bought the same screen this morning from DVDSuperOne for $137, $30 next day shipping, for a total of $167. It's a N141XC-L01 model LCD... I bought it based on that, not based on the IBM part number of 11P8346

Well in this auction it just says A215-S5807. That is the model number of the laptop, not the screen. I went ahead and ordered it anyway after comparing parts numbers from Spareparts Warehouse. The different compatible screens matched up six times between the same two models so I figure they must use the same screen.

...and hopefully they do. Otherwise I am gonna have a marine ****** off at me. lol

Just thought I'd give you guys a follow up. I just finished installing the new screen and it works perfectly. And in response to what 14049752 said about getting the model number directly off the LCD screen. I would have checked the model number of the LCD screen but the customer lives on a marine base about an hour away and he is getting deployed to Iraq this weekend so I had to order it and get it done fast.

But anyway, it works and he was happy and said he is gonna pass around my cards on base cuz there really isn't anywhere to get your computer fixed nearby. So woot I am happy about that!
