File sharing on workgroup

[AbesBro]

i set up a workgroup network with two XP PCs and a network printer through a wireeless router
one of the PCs is connected through a wireless USB dongle the other is connected with cable.

both pcs get ip from DHCP.
both are in same workgroup.

there is a identical user + password on both machines.

Permissions are everyone read

With such a configuration , should i be asked for a uername and password when accessing shared folders on network?

or i there something missing in this configuration?

i am not near the setup

how should XP in workgroup config behave with\without simple file sharing

(i work in domain environment and dont really know much about simple file sharing with workgroup setups are supposed to work.)
