Thought I would start an update thread as this gets updated quite a lot. There was an update today to 4.0.0.222. Interesting he has added driver backup as a to do :)

Fab's AutoBackup 4 Tech 4.0.0.222 is online.

Here are the changes :

Fixed :

- "Downloads", "Windows Sidebar's Gadgets" and "Opera" (browser and mail) backup routines were missing. Update is highly recommended.

- Translation tool has been fixed : Buttons "Check All", "Uncheck All" strings were swapped.

To do :

- Add backup drivers support

I really hope that he's working on a restore routine that doesn't require being logged in as the user.

The way I used Autobackup 2 is with the PE edition, inside of Windows on my backup machine. I slave the customer drive to my system, backup to my data drive, then restore using the same machine. It would allow you to choose the drive (Not C: ) and then let you choose the user accounts on that drive, then restore to them.

V.4 says in the user manual that you have to be logged in as the user you are restoring to....meaning that I have to start up the customer's system and then plug in an external drive with USB (I work on mostly laptops) and restore that way. This works, it's just a thing I don't want to have to do.

It's not a major problem, but it can be REALLY slow to restore data over USB on some of these systems. I'd love the ability to do it like I did in 2.

Ah ok thanks for explaining, I never used Version 2.

Thanks. I think by the time I can no longer download updates I'll have to bite the bullet and buy the Tech version.

AutoIt+Ver3 is a pretty good combo for offline backup, though.

I downloaded the newest update this morning (of the tech version) because I needed to backup a customers computer. After "Storing Window messaging subsysterm (MAPI) Profile" the "Done", I received a "List index out of bounds (1)" error message.

I uncheck a few things, but got this message each time I launched the backup. (three more times). I unziped my older version - from feburary and it worked fine.

So, if anyone else downloads the update, save you old copy of the program just in case.

By the way, I really, really love this program. Saves me a ton of time. Keep up the great work.

Did you send a failure report to Fab?

Yep, sure did.

Fab and I have been emailing each other back and forth the last couple of days.

So far he has not been able to duplicate the problem. The problem may be isolated to my customers hard drive. Not sure.
