Extreme marketing idea?

I think how bad of an idea this is has been covered but one other point needs to be made - you need to dump that marketing guy as his thinking is so far wrong as to be borderline criminal. God knows what if he decides your website should start doing something similar on a drive by basis? Wrong headed as can be and you really should not associate with him further.

Dump someone because of a creative idea? Wouldn't be many "mad men" in the world if agencies worked with that rule of thumb.

Again,

I appreciate the comments but no one is getting fired, I have an excellent working relationship with this person. In this instance, not the best idea for sure. Overall I'm a very happy client, I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I agree, no need to fire them because they came up with bad idea. It is an innovative idea and, to be honest, I'm sure it's already been tried. Just not one that would work in the real world. That's why we are not seeing it being used.

No reason to fire anyone. Just not a good marketing idea.

To be straightforward, it seems like a marketing plan conceived by someone more concerned with honing their advertising chops with creative ideas than actually creating business for you. Not a reason to fire anyone, but it's so 'out there' that it's a bit of a red flag.

These kinds of really 'Out-of-the-box' campaigns tend to work better with very large corporate accounts, not regular people. Effective marketing is surprisingly boring, at least most of the time.

As in many offices, anyone in our office that inserted an unknown CD into their computer would get a severe reprimand from myself and several other higher-ups.

I can imagine the uptake will be low and it's an expensive mailing.

Sure plug a random USB drive that what was mailed to me to see whats on it...what could possibly go wrong.

This is something IT guys are trying to prevent end users doing.
