Hi

I did a quick search of the forum, but could not find any item related (I could of missed it)

I have a small client who has 8 work stations and 1 server. I'm needing a away for them to large email attachments (most emails are around 10mb+)

But it needs to be as easy as possible. and they have asked for free ::signs::

the only options i can think of are things like dropbox of yousendit

I have ruled out a FTP server as there broadbandspeed is that poor.

Any ideas of other options.

Paul

I guess I don't understand the question. Are you looking for some sort of cloud file sharing, or something that allows them to email large files?

Emailing overly large files is generally not a good idea because you have idea what the recipients email gateway is set to reject at, most are 25MB.

Sorry, i'm doing about 10 things at once.

Yes something to allow large files to be send. i'm starting to think cloud could be the best way to go. But I need to make it easy as anything new might scare them.

Sent through email or just delivered to some else? I am sure there is a free smtp program out there that can send files of any size.

You could try using an archiving app like 7-zip, winrar etc. Split the file into two 5mb archives, which can then simply be extracted with the by the receiver. Just download both attachments to a folder and extracting them as one.

Easy to do in no time at all, only issue I suppose would be the receiver needs to know how to extract the contents. Though this is what I generally due with email restrictions.

Hi
I have ruled out a FTP server as there broadbandspeed is that poor.
If their broadband speed is that bad then how will they be able to send by mail?
Every option you have will involve uploading the file at some point.
Do they have a website? Why not get a script so they can upload files to their site and then send out a link by e-mail.
If they are sending large files to the same people they could create a members area where their clients can login and see all files that are meant for them and download them as needed.

DropBox has a REALLY easy-to-use public sharing system now. You just upload the file to dropbox (drag drop the file into the dropbox folder on your computer), and then grab the sharing link. Pretty snazzy.

Echoing what others have said; even if you can find a way to SEND emails with attachments that large, they might be rejected by the recipients mail handler. So, the safest way is to use dropbox (or similar) and just email the links to the attachments. Much faster too, probably.

e-mail itself isn't really the issue for outgoing. The issue will be...many "recipients" that they send to may have e-mail systems that do not permit them to receive large files. So...you'll want to select a neutral web based system to send the large files to...and then the recipient gets an e-mail with a link which they click that allows them to download the file. (optionally after entering a password you give them..if you want a secure mechanism).
