Annoying, got in a new win 10 laptop with a small ssd and large data drive, naturally all the users files have filled the sdd so I did the usual and moved them to the d drive, dropbox was the biggest at 9gb so I read how to move it but the move operation did nothing overnight. The cpu and memory use during move is very minimal, no errors either. Is there another way to accomplish this without screwing up her sync, etc. ?

just guessing, but

  • Backup the dropbox folder
  • uninstall dropbox
  • delete the folder
  • reinstall dropbox, pointing it to the hard disk
  • let it sync
  • Compare newly-synced local folder with your backup to identify anything that might have been local but not online. (robocopy, ignorning existing files is one option)

thanks may have to resort to that i guess

In a situation like this where you have to choose between cleverness and brute force, brute force wins every time.

I contacted my client, turns out she's dependant on Dropbox, I backed off, I've had bad experiences with it in the past. I told her to simply cut excess files and paste to the d drive as necessary she still has 25 gb free on the ssd anyways.
