Dropbox and large storage

Hi,

I have a potential new client that are currently having problems with their current setup. They are using dropbox but have approximately 600GB of data. They have 10 users in an office and 2 offsite using tablets. Dropbox is constantly syncing, not surprising with the amount of data stored.

They have asked me to come up with a solution, but I keep hitting a brick wall.

Just wondered if anyone else had come across this situation before and how they tackled it.

I've had a similar issue at a local business.

I set them up with a Synology NAS. Syncs everything over the LAN in the office and then they use it's cloud for offsite sharing.

They also kept Dropbox (for business), but were able to reduce the number of users substantially and reduce the costs for it.
The Dropbox now just syncs to the NAS to provide a backup for people in the field.

And yes, they used lots of data as well. They were in the Terabytes for data usage. Their business uses pictures and video, so they had a high data usage.

I thought this is why Google Drive Stream was created. I haven't used it much though.

Dropbox now do something similar now, but they have some files which are 500mb+ so would take a while to download on demand.

No, they use the NAS for sharing files outside the office as well. Synology has a sharing/cloud function. The nice thing for them is they share pics and video. The Synology will transcode and stream video to the remote user, so it's less bandwidth heavy when sending video files.

Dropbox is used just as a kind of fail-over/backup in case their internet is slow or out. It also acts as a cloud backup in case the NAS dies. Although if I remember correctly I set them up with a 4-bay model so they can lose a drive without data getting lost.
Dropbox now just syncs to the NAS, not the desktops.

Must be working pretty well, I installed it back in April, then went there for one service call to help educate him on using it. Haven't heard a peep from him since.
