So for about 8 months we were in a decently sized office with counters set up for customers bringing in computers, and a back room. The rent wasn't worth the visibility/walk-ins (40mph traffic and no foot traffic), so we recently switched to a pickup/delivery model and moved to a small office that my partner can arrange to be at if a customer doesn't want pickup/delivery at their home. So when I heard about a possibly compatible model on an episode of Podnutz Daily, I thought it would be worth some consideration.
Lotfi the Reballer from London has had good success with using other (non-tech) businesses as drop off points, providing them with signage and forms etc. Now it's more common in London than in Connecticut for businesses to be combined like that, but I was wondering if any of you in the US has had experience with this?
As far as will it be as success, I see some pros and cons, but I think it's something that can be tried on a small basis and ramped up if successful. So in a sense it's better than a investing in a year of yellowpages. The main thing I'm concerned about is insurance and legal matters. If anyone has done this, does it mean you are considered to have that many more locations? When you are paying the business owner a commission for accepting computers, are they a part-time employee? I mean it's one thing for a supermarket to have an ATM, netflix machine, or a vending machine maintained by a 3rd party, but this is more complex right?
By the way: although this could be done in a white-label sort of way, where other businesses can offer a computer repair service, and you are the back-end, I am assuming the other way around where you give them signs/etc with your stuff, and you get your name out there. (Which also means any good or bad customer service they give reflects on you.)
