That's a very handy collection, especially for when you don't have an internet connection (and if you need a lan or modem driver)

Dont forget about Driver Collector if your about to do a format. Its great for gathering the systems drivers so you dont have to look for them again.

Yeah, I use it frequently, especially with old computers and laptops and sometimes the drivers are very specific to those models and are hard to come by now days. Its worked about 97% of the time overall. The 3% is the very very few times that after a format I goto install the drivers again but it is missing an executable or something, but thats rare. I highly recommend it, it even works from within Ultimate Boot CD.

I just had a play with driver collector but it only seems to backup on driver at a time?

I have just downloaded double driver and that has to be installed, it looks alot better than driver collector I wonder is there is a way to run it without installing, any ideas?

I just had a look at the program directory and I dont think you would even need to install it.....?

These tools are very good though for format and reinstalls, it would be a good idea to backup the drivers of all the systems you work on to a portable hard disk then you could build up your own driver collection!

Yeah, Driver Collector will only backup one driver at a time. I just downloaded Double Driver just then from here, installed it and ran it. It looks much better than Driver Collector but I guess I'll see how it performs in the field.

Also, it may not need to be installed. I installed it to a directory and then moved it to another location and it ran fine, though it still may have placed a registry key somewhere. I'll test it on my next callout.

I typically clone the drive before working on machines, just to be safe.
With some Dells, the drivers are in c:\drivers

Thanks for that post - very useful!!

I use driveragent dot com but it cost 30 for a year. I'm not sure if you tech are into paying for such a service. I find it convient as I just run a scan and it lets me know what drivers I need to download. Yeah I know, ive used driverguide before, but i really like this one.
