Driver Collector – Collect Installed Windows Drivers

Driver Collector is a tool designed to find and collect installed windows drivers for the hardware you select on your PC. Once you tell it which type of drivers you want to collect, it will copy them to a specific folder. This can be very handy when preparing for a format and reinstall of Windows, especially when you or a client have since lost the computers driver disks.

I always find that just taking a copy of the windows directory does the trick. Search for new hardware in Windows/inf, and all the related files in Windows/system.

Really nice hack. I used to do this with a cracked version of a Commercial product called “Driver Magician”, but now that there is a free alternative available, I won’t have to resort to such drastic fluttery any more.

Nice utility.

Suggestions for improvement:

* Add a Cancel button while copying
* Add the ability to download all drivers for all devices instead of having to select a device one at a time.

If you have multiple devices per category, it will always create a folder named by the device at the bottom of the list.

For example, I have 2 NICs:

– Broadcom NetExtreme
– Dell Wireless 4500

No matter which one I select it puts the drivers in a folder called “c:\Dell Wireless 4500”. It copies the right files, just doesn’t put them in the right folder.

I tried Driver Collector and Double Driver, and for me the most important driver to capture would be the ethernet driver. Double Driver did this, but Driver Collector did not.

This is a very useful tool.. i’ve used it personally a couple of times and greatly recommend it ! But most of the times i found that the drivers installed on the clients computers themselves are the cause of some problems or are oudated ! So i started integrating drivers into my unattended install’s.

http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ is the best way/solution to get almost all the popular drivers integrated into your unattended installations so you can be sure that the driver installed will be the latest !
